Youngstown Diocesan Confederation of Teachers
Current Contract - Article 7 - Tenured and Three-Year Extended Contracts

Section 1: Tenure Contract
Tenure, as used in this contract, refers to elementary lay teachers who have signed tenure contracts. Lay teachers, presently employed in an elementary school of the Diocese of Youngstown who were granted tenure in the past, continue their tenure status.

Their tenure is valid in the parish school in which they were employed at the time the tenure was granted.

Tenure is no longer granted to teachers in the elementary schools in the Diocese of Youngstown.

Section 2: Three-Year Extended Contract
Elementary lay teachers may apply for a three-year extended contract. The process and requirements for obtaining a three-year extended contract are:

A.  completion of three (3) years of satisfactory service in a Diocese of Youngstown elementary school;
B.  possession of an eight-year professional teaching certificate;
C.  required religious education certification;
D.  submission of a letter of intent, to the principal/director, requesting a three-year extended contract;
E.  agreement of the pastor to grant a three-year extended contract; and
F.  satisfactory completion of a year of appraisal by the principal/director and a member of the diocesan staff.
Section 3: Annual Salary Notification
Teachers who have been granted a three-year extended contract will not sign annual contracts.  Instead they will sign an annual salary notification.

Section 4: Renewal of a Three-Year Extended Contract
At the end of the contract period, if the teacher's performance continues to be satisfactory and the pastor is willing, another extended contract will be issued.
