Current Contract - Article XVI - Temporary Leaves of Absence |
1. Teachers will be entitled to the following temporary leaves of absence with pay each school year:
b. At least one (1) day for the purpose of visiting other schools or attending meetings or conferences of educational nature may be granted at the discretion of the principal.
c. Time necessary for Association representatives to attend conferences and conventions of the National Association of Catholic School Teachers.
d. Time necessary for appearances in any legal proceeding connected with the teacher's employment or with the school system or in any other legal proceeding if the teacher is required by law to attend. The Corporation will deduct from the employee's daily pay any amount received by the employee in connection with said legal proceeding.
e. Up to five (5) days at any one time in the event of death or serious illness requiring bedside or household attention by the teacher of a teacher's spouse, child, parent or other member of the immediate household. Teachers will be granted one (1) day at any one (1) time in the event of death or serious illness requiring bedside or household attention of a teacher's son-in-law, daughter-in-law, father-in-law, mother-in-law, or sibling. Additional bereavement leave may, when necessary, be granted by the principal.
f. Every person who is a member of a reserve component of the Armed Forces of the United States shall be granted, in accordance with Section 59 of Chapter 33 of the General Laws, leave of absence, without loss of pay during the time of his/her annual tour of duty as a member of such reserved component; provided, however, that such leave shall not exceed seventeen (17) calendar days. If the teacher has the choice he will fulfill his/her reserve military duty in the summer months. If the seventeen (17) days are exceeded because of an emergency call-up then the employee called up shall be entitled to an additional leave of absence with pay for an additional twenty (20) calendar days. However, the pay for the additional twenty (20) days shall be an amount which provides the teacher with the difference between what he earns from the government and what he would earn as a teacher during that period of time.
