Boston Archdiocesan Teachers Association
Current Contract - Article X - Teacher Assignments

1. Teachers will be notified in writing of their programs for the coming school year including the grades and/or subjects that they will teach, and any special or unusual classes that they will have, as soon as practicable and under normal circumstances not later than the last day of student attendance. Teachers shall notify their principal on or before the first Monday in April as to whether or not they intend to renew their contract of employment for the next year. If the teacher does not provide said notice as of the first Monday of April, said inaction will constitute a resignation effective at the end of the school year.

2. In order to assure that pupils are taught by educators teaching within their areas of competence, teachers will not be assigned except temporarily and for good stated cause, outside the scope of their teaching certificates and/or their major and/or minor fields of study and/or demonstrated proficiency in certain specialized fields. A teacher who is temporarily assigned to another discipline does not gain seniority in that discipline to which he/she is temporarily assigned.

3. To the extent possible, changes in subject assignment in the secondary schools will be voluntary.

4. Teacher assignments will be made without regard to race, creed, color, nationality, age, marital status, sex, or association activity.
