SECTION A
1. The starting salary for new teachers for the four years of this
agreement is as follows:

2. A new teacher may be granted up to five (5) years' prior teaching experience at an additional $500.00 per year of experience not to exceed a maximum of $2,500.00. After the amount is added, the teacher shall be placed on the closest step on the appropriate scale.
3. To determine the scale for teachers of religion for whom Pennsylvania does not grant certification, the following is to be applied:
PA INSTRUCTIONAL I PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATION: A bachelor's degree in theology, religious studies or related field.4. Teachers teaching general computer courses must hold PA Instructional I or II Professional Certification in any subject area. Teachers teaching computer courses for a specific subject, e.g., business or science or mathematics, must hold PA Instructional I or II in the appropriate area, e.g., business or science or mathematics.
PA INSTRUCTIONAL II PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATION: A master's degree in theology, religious studies or related field.
SECTION B
For the 1997-1998 school year, each teacher shall receive an increase
of four and one-half (4 & 1/2) percent.
SECTION C
For the 1998-1999 school year, each teacher shall receive an increase
of four and one-half (4& 1/2) percent.
SECTION D
For the 1999-2000 school year, each teacher shall receive an increase
of four and one-half (4 & 1/2) percent.
SECTION E
For the 2000-2001 school year, each teacher shall receive an increase
of four and one-half (4 & 1/2) percent.
SECTION F
Teachers who have not attained PA Instructional Professional Certification
by September 1, 1998, will have their salary frozen.
When said teachers achieve this certification, they will be placed
on the closest/higher step on the appropriate scale.
SECTION G
Teachers who acquire PA Instructional II Professional Certification
shall have $300.00 added to their base salay and shall be
placed on the closest/higher step on the appropriate scale.
SECTION H
Teachers who acquire a Master's degree or teachers who have a Bachelor's
degree plus 35 credits shall have $300.00 added to their annual salary.
SECTION I
For purposes of making the changes described in Sections F and G and
H, adjustments shall be made to a teacher's salary in the first full month
following receipt of proof of credit by the Diocese.
SECTION J
Teachers who have dependent children attending any Diocesan High School
shall pay ten (10) percent of the per pupil cost as determined each year.
SECTION K
1 . The Diocese shall provide managed health care coverage for all
teachers, and it shall pay the premium for individual or family coverage,
with the exception of eye and dental. In no case shall the Diocese pay
for duplicate coverage. Premiums for eye or dental insurance shall be paid
by the teachers, if they elect this coverage.
2. If a teacher does not elect the managed health care coverage, then the Diocese shall pay the premium for eye and dental insurance.
3. All newly-hired teachers who elect coverage will participate in the managed health care program. Teachers hired before September 1, 1996, will be required to enroll in the managed health care program, effective January 1, 1998, with the enrollment period to occur in autumn of 1997.
SECTION L
Teachers required to use privately owned vehicles as transportation
to attend in-service meetings outside their school of employment, or for
required attendance at extra-curricular activities, shall be reimbursed
at the rate of twenty (.20) cents per mile for such travel, excluding normal
commuting distance. Any teacher required to travel, where overnight lodging
is necessary, shall be reimbursed for reasonable and normal lodging expenses
and meal costs, in addition to any applicable mileage expense reimbursement.
SECTION M
1 . Teachers shall continue to participate in the Diocesan Lay Employee
Defined Benefit Plan, as described in the Plan Provisions. The funding
costs for this Defined Benefit Plan shall be shared by the Diocese and
the individual employee, the latter's share not to exceed one (1) percent
of the individual's gross pay. The Diocese shall provide an individual
yearly statement indicating the teacher's annual contribution with interest
accrued and the total-to-date retirement benefit. The individual employee
retains the right to withdraw his/her investment plus earnings upon leaving
Diocesan employment prior
to vesting or retirement.
2. The Diocese shall provide, a 403(b) Retirement Plan for all teachers.
This will be a voluntary contribution plan made through a payroll deduction.
Several investment funds will be available for each individual to choose
from, to allow for different investment styles and objectives. The Diocese
shall provide a quarterly statement indicating the teacher's contribution,
interest earned and total-to-date contribution with interest accrued. The
individual employee retains the right to withdraw his/her
investment plus earnings upon leaving Diocesan employment or retirement.
The Diocese will provide the Plan Administrator and will pay costs involved.
The target date for implementing this plan is July 1,1997.
3. The Diocese retains the right to freeze or terminate the Defined
Benefit Plan described in paragraph (1) above for the purpose of improving
the 403(b) Retirement Plan described in paragraph (2) above. In the event
of such Plan freeze or termination, the benefit amount that has accrued
to each teacher in the Defined Benefit Plan will be transferred to their
individual account in the 403(b). Thereafter, the Diocese will contribute
monies to each individual 403(b) account, in lieu of the
diocesan funding that would have been made to the Defined Benefit Plan.
SECTION N
The current Indemnity Benefit Coverage will continue at the same benefit
levels and will include all teachers. In no case, however, will reimbursements
to teachers exceed 100% of their regular income. Such leave benefits, provided
for in Article I I of the Agreement, will be any payments made by the underwriter
of the Indemnity Benefit Plan.
SECTION O
Teachers will receive, at no cost to them, Life Insurance coverage
equivalent to one year's gross salary, the amount being earned at the time
of death. Teachers will also receive, at no cost to them, the short term
and the long term disability included in the Diocesan Plan.
SECTION P
Compensation for extra-curricular activities shall be negotiated on
an individual basis between the principal and the moderator.
SECTION Q
The payment for substitutions as specified in Article XII, Section
G is at the rate of $6.00 per substitution. Payment shall be made
twice a year on December 15 and June 15.
SECTION R
Teachers shall be included in the Diocesan Liability Plan while acting
within the scope of their employment. The Association shall be notified
by January 15 as to the amount of the coverage.
