SECTION A
Nothing in this article shall be construed as inhibiting any teacher
from voluntarily undertaking school responsibilities during or after the
school day which are beyond the equitable distribution of duties outlined
below. All teachers, however, have the right to refuse these extra-curricular
duties providing such refusal does not violate any other provisions of
this Agreement.
SECTION B
The school year shall not exceed one hundred eighty-five (185) days,
including in-service days, which teachers are required to attend.
SECTION C
Except in unusual circumstances, the school day shall not exceed seven
(7) hours. Teachers must be available for consultation with the administration,
parents, or pupils on a reasonable basis outside of class hours. The normal
school day is determined by the time designated by the local administration.
SECTION D
Teachers shall be required to be present for the following evening
activities: two (2) parent conferences and graduation exercises which include
both the Baccalaureate Mass and the commencement exercises.
SECTION E
The weekly total of teaching and service periods shall not exceed fourteen
hundred (1400) minutes.. A teaching period is one in which the teacher
is actively involved in teaching and for which grades must be given. A
service period is one in which the teacher is assigned only to oversee
pupils in a supervisory capacity and/or provide professional services to
the high school.
SECTION F
A full time teacher must have scheduled a weekly minimum total of teaching
and service periods of one thousand (1000) minutes. Teachers shall be entitled
to one designated preparation period each day.
SECTION G
Teachers may be asked to substitute for absent teachers. If the time
spent is the teacher's only preparation period of the day or exceeds the
fourteen hundred (1400) required minutes, the teacher shall be paid at
the rate specified under Wages and Benefits (article XVI, Section Q). Ordinarily,
teachers should not be asked to substitute during their designated preparation
period. The principal shall maintain written records of all completed substitutions.
SECTION H
In the event of a teacher's absence exceeding a period of two (2) days,
every effort shall be made to acquire a substitute to assume that teacher's
responsibilities.
SECTION I
Teachers shall not be assigned more than four (4) consecutive full
time teaching and service periods, exclusive of homerooms.
SECTION J
To the maximum extent possible, a teacher shall not be assigned classes
which require more than three (3) preparations. A preparation is defined
as a difference in subject and/or grade level.
SECTION K
No later than ten (10) working days prior to the first day of school,
the principal shall provide each teacher with a list of courses that teacher
shall teach, a copy of the teacher's schedule, and his/her room assignment.
A schedule of any revisions of non-teaching periods will be provided no
later than ten (10) working days prior to the first day of the second semester.
SECTION L
To the maximum extent possible, teachers shall not teach more than
one (1) level or class in the same time period.
SECTION M
Every teacher shall be entitled to a duty-free lunch period of not
less than thirty (30) minutes.
