SECTION A
Teacher seniority shall be measured by years of satisfactory teaching
service to the Diocese. There shall be two (2) levels of seniority within
the Diocesan high school system: School Seniority, based on the years of
service in a particular school, and System Seniority, based on the total
years of service within the bargaining unit schools. Seniority for new
teachers shall be established by the date and the time hired, as documented
on their individual contract.
SECTION B
On or before October 1 of each school year, the Employer shall supply
to the Association, and shall post in the individual schools, the master
teaching schedule, a complete roster of all members of the bargaining unit,
including those on approved leaves, arranged according to teacher seniority
and listing fields of competency. Area of competency for this roster shall
be determined in the following manner.
1. All subjects listed on the teacher's Pennsylvania State Certificate.Competencies determined by mutual agreement shall be reviewed annually and may be removed by mutual agreement of the principal and the teacher. All competencies determined by mutual agreement shall be removed from the roster after a period of rive (5) years, if the teacher has not been teaching that course. The Association and the Diocese shall resolve all conflicts in regard to years of service and areas of competency; and their decision will not be subject to the grievance-arbitration procedure.
2. Courses not listed on the teachers's certificate shall be established by mutual agreement of the principal and the teacher after the teacher has at least two (2) year's experience teaching a course.
SECTION C
Teachers must notify the administration by November 15 of any corrections
to be made concerning their positions or areas of competency on the seniority
roster.
SECTION D
If a teacher has taught in the school and has resigned and is subsequently
rehired, he/she shall retain any teacher seniority previously acquired,
provided the teacher is rehired within four (4) years of the effective
date of his/her resignation.
SECTION E
A teacher hired permanently or returning from an approved leave after
the opening of school, and prior to February I of the school year, shall
have this partial year credited as a full year for seniority purposes.
In the event the teacher is hired on or after February 1, no credit shall
be given for seniority purposes.
