Altoona-Johnstown Catholic School Teachers Association
Current Contract - Article 6 - Diocesan Accreditation

SECTION A
All teachers in the bargaining unit must attain Diocesan accreditation, which requires the completion of a religious studies
program, at least thirty (30) clock hours in length.

SECTION B
Teachers can achieve this Diocesan accreditation in one of the following ways:

1. Complete the Basic Catechist Formation Course in the Altoona-Johnstown Diocese Catechist Formation Program.
2. Complete year one and year two of the Lay Ministry Formation Process of the Altoona-Johnstown.
3. Complete an individualized study program. The teacher will work out the details of this program with a staff member from the Diocesan Education Office.
4. Teachers who have completed comparable college level courses may request a waiver from this religious studies requirement by submitting a transcript of their course work to the Director of Education.
SECTION C
The Diocese will offer the above listed courses at no charge to the teachers.

SECTION D
All teachers shall have three (3) years from the effective date of their employment to satisfy the religious studies requirement for
Diocesan accreditation. Teachers who fail to complete these requirements within the prescribed time limits will not receive salary increment raises nor be granted tenure, until accreditation is attained.
